What is the Letterle game?
Letterle is a joke on Wordle that became a real hit. Instead of a five-letter word, the answer is a single letter. There are no colour clues to help you, so every game is pure luck, and that’s the whole joke. The original was made by Ed Jefferson in 2022, during the height of the Wordle craze.
This page is a free Letterle-style game you can play online in any browser. The Letterle daily letter changes at midnight Toronto time, so you can compare scores with friends. Letterle unlimited mode lets you play as many rounds as you like.

There is no strategy
Every letter has the same chance, so E is no better than Z. That’s the joke.

Want the Letterle answer today? There is no way to work it out, so the honest answer is: keep guessing. Each day’s letter is picked at random, and once you find it, the result screen shows it with your score. Because every guess is pure chance, knowing yesterday’s letter gives no clue about today’s. In Letterle unlimited mode, a new random letter appears every time you press Play again.
Why Letterle went viral
When Wordle took over social media, dozens of spin-offs appeared, from longer words to multiple boards. Letterle went the other way and made the smallest Wordle possible. People loved sharing silly results, like a first-try win or a painful 25 grey squares in a row. Because it takes only a few seconds, it’s a perfect quick break, and it’s still a favourite way to laugh at how seriously we take our daily word games.
