    How to play Stackdown?

    Pick exposed tiles

The tiles sit in layers like Mahjong Solitaire. Bright tiles are exposed and can be picked. Dim tiles are blocked by a tile resting on them.

    Spell the hidden word

Each puzzle hides six five-letter words. Spell the first one with five tiles. If it’s wrong, the tiles go back and you try again.

    Dig to the bottom

Each solved word uncovers the tiles for the next one. Solve all six to clear the stack. Use the clue if you get stuck, and check the word list under the stack to see the words you have solved so far.

    What is the Stackdown game?

Stackdown is a daily word puzzle that mixes a Wordle-style five-letter word hunt with the tile-digging of Mahjong Solitaire. Letters sit in a diamond-shaped stack, and you can only use the tiles that nothing rests on.

This page is a free Stackdown-style word game you can play online, with no app and no sign-up. A new daily stack arrives at midnight Toronto time, and Stackdown unlimited mode gives you a fresh stack whenever you want.

The order matters. The letters are piled so the six words come out one after another. If you grab the wrong copy of a letter, a tile you need later can end up buried, so think before you dig.

    Free retries

A wrong word sends the tiles back. There are no lives, but misses show in your result.

    Undo letters

Tap a letter in your word row to send it, and every letter after it, back to the stack.

    Stars

Finish with no hints for 5 stars. Each hint costs one star.
