How to play Colorfle?

Look at the colour

The big swatch shows today’s secret colour. Your job is to find its hex code, the six-character code designers use, like #FF8800 for orange.

Guess six digits

Each digit is 0 to 9 or A to F. Red digits are exactly right. An up arrow means that digit should be higher, a down arrow means lower.

Match it in six

Each guess also shows a match percentage and a swatch of your colour, so you can see how close you are by eye.

What is the Colorfle game?

Colorfle is a family of daily colour puzzles inspired by Wordle. Instead of letters, you work with colours: in some versions you mix paints to match a shade, and in hex versions like this one you guess the exact code of a colour on screen. Both test your eye for colour as much as your logic.

This page is a free Colorfle-style colour Wordle you can play online in any browser. The daily colour changes at midnight Toronto time, so everyone matches the same shade today. Colorfle unlimited mode gives you a new colour as often as you like, which makes it a great colour practice tool.

It’s especially fun for designers, artists and anyone who has stared at a colour picker trying to get a shade just right.

How hex colour codes work

PartControlsExample
Digits 1–2Red, from 00 (none) to FF (full)#FF0000 is pure red
Digits 3–4Green, from 00 to FF#00FF00 is pure green
Digits 5–6Blue, from 00 to FF#0000FF is pure blue
All equalGreys#808080 is middle grey

Each pair is a number from 0 to 255 written in base 16. The first digit of each pair matters most, so get those right first.

Colorfle hints and tips

Start in the middle

Open with #888888. The arrows then tell you which way each digit needs to go.

Halve the range

If a digit says higher after 8, try C next. Halving finds any digit in four steps.

Read the colour

A warm orange has a high red pair and low blue pair. Use your eye before your first guess.

Watch the percentage

Match % shows overall closeness. Above 95% usually means only small digits are off.

Big digits first

Digits 1, 3 and 5 change the colour the most. Fix them before the fine-tuning digits.

Compare swatches

Each row shows your colour next to the code, so you can see if you’re too dark or too light.

Train your eye for colour

Playing a colour Wordle every day builds a real skill. Designers, illustrators and web developers use hex codes all the time, and after a week of play you’ll start to recognise roughly how much red, green and blue is in a shade just by looking at it. That makes it easier to pick matching colours, fix a palette that feels off, or describe a colour to someone else. Unlimited mode is perfect for a quick practice session.

Colorfle FAQ

How do you play Colorfle?

Guess the hex code of the colour shown in six tries. Red digits are right, and arrows show whether each digit should go higher or lower.

What is a hex colour code?

It’s a six-character code for a colour, made of three pairs for red, green and blue. Each character is 0–9 or A–F.

What is the best first guess?

#888888 is a strong start because it sits in the middle of every digit’s range.

Is there a new Colorfle today?

Yes. A new daily colour starts every day at midnight Toronto time.

Can I play Colorfle unlimited?

Yes. Switch to Unlimited, or press Play again after any game, for a new colour.

Is this the original Colorfle?

No. This is an independent Colorfle-style colour game. The original Colorfle is a colour-mixing puzzle, while this version asks you to guess hex codes.

Why do some codes look the same?

Small changes in the second digit of a pair barely change the colour on screen. That is why the match percentage and the arrows matter more than your eye at the end.

Is this Colorfle game free?

Yes. It is free to play online on phone or computer, with no account and no download.
